Coldfoot is basically a truck stop on the Dalton Highway about half way between Fairbanks and Prudhoe Bay.

The town was originally a minimg camp named "Slate Creek" in 1902 it had 2 roadhouses, two stores, seven saloon and a gambling house. Unlike the nearby village of Wiseman, when the gold ran out Coldfoot was abandoned. It was reopened in the mid 1970'a and used as a construction camp during the oil pipeline construction. It died down once again but has come back as a truck stop with a cafe and overnight accomodations.
